Aging leaves its marks in the form of lines, wrinkles, facial folds, and even a loss of facial volume. All are common concerns for both men and women as they get older. Why? Over time our skin loses essential substances responsible for keeping our skin looking young, such as collagen, elastin, and natural moisture. Facial fillers (also called dermal fillers) are designed to address these signs of aging.
Facial fillers may be right for you if you are concerned about:
- Nasolabial folds
- Marionette or parentheses lines
- Tear trough
- Skin laxity
- Thinning lips
- Loss of facial volume
- Hollow or sunken appearance
Certain fillers can also be used to enhance the appearance of areas other than the face, such as to restore fullness for bony or veiny hands.
A Filler for Every Need
At Plastic Surgical Associates in Colorado, we offer a wide range of fillers to ensure each individual is able to achieve his or her unique goals. During your consultation, Dr. Duncan will take a close look at your skin and listen carefully to your concerns and expectations to make a professional recommendation as to which filler or type of filler might be best for your specific case.
The following types of fillers are available at our Colorado practice.
Hyaluronic Acid-based (HA) Fillers
RHA® Collection
Hyaluronic acid-based fillers are some of the most popular options. Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally occurring substance that is found in our skin and helps retain moisture for a healthy look and feel. These fillers work by replenishing HA in our skin to improve skin hydration and restore a youthful plumpness.
Fillers like the RHA® Collection (RHA2, 3, 4 and Redensity) use different variations of HA gel to address a variety of concerns from nasolabial folds to a loss of volume in the cheeks and even thinning lips. For example, Revance Redensity™ filler is specifically designed for lip enhancement whereas RHA2™ (also by Revance) is great for restoring fullness in the cheeks and even achieving a subtle lift. Our trained injectors will be able to help you make an informed decision about the right filler during your personal consultation.
Because hyaluronic acid-based fillers are formulated using a natural substance, there is a lower chance of allergic reaction than with other synthetic gel fillers. Most hyaluronic acid-based fillers require little to no downtime and achieve results that can be enjoyed immediately. Results from hyaluronic acid gel fillers could last for anywhere from six months to up to two full years.
Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHA) Filler
Radiesse®
Radiesse® is a calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) based filler which makes Radiesse unique in the injectable world as most aesthetic fillers tend to be HA based (see above!). It’s the first and only CaHA filler to provide both immediate, natural-looking results and long-term improvement (sometimes up to a year or more!).
Radiesse® is a dermal filler used for improving moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds like nasolabial folds but can also be used for correcting volume loss in the back of the hands. Radiesse® is a stiffer filler than HA fillers which means it provides more support in tough areas. Dr. Duncan tends to use it in areas that require the appearance of more structure.
Alternative: Facial Fat Transfer
Autologous Fat Grafting
A facial fat transfer is a very natural way to restore facial volume using your body’s own harvested fat. To perform this procedure, donor fat will need to be taken from an area of your body where you might have some excess or stubborn fat. These fat cells are then cleansed and prepared in order to be re-injected into specific areas of the face to achieve your desired outcome.
Small amounts of liposuction will be performed in order to collect the needed fat cells. Our patients love the idea that they are restoring a younger, fuller facial appearance while losing unwanted fat in areas such as the abdomen, hips, and thighs. If you do not have a lot of excess fat, a facial fat transfer may not be the right choice for you.
This natural fat filler treatment can help restore large amounts of volume and create very natural-looking fullness for the face. Results from a facial fat transfer are extremely long-lasting. Depending on your treatment and how much fat is removed for injection, you may experience a short period of downtime.
